One of the most common challenges when moving from one career to another is having a singular work history. Often, workers have a lengthy career within one industry – or even with just one employer – when life moves them to start over. When faced with transitioning to a new career, the prospect of interviewing can be especially intimidating, whether due to the length of time that has transpired since the last time they’ve applied to or interviewed for a position, or because they’re interested in a different field and are unsure if they can break into it.
At Launch, we recognize this dynamic and work diligently to equip you for success in the interview arena. As part of a regularly updated Interview Skills Training curriculum, we emphasize the importance of completing mock interviews. These sessions will address not only what to say to frequently used interview questions, but also instruction on how to research the company and the position and generate specific and practical examples to highlight each element of your resume, as well as tips on appearance and presentation. We’ll give you supportive resources, such as note cards or answer prompts, and complete verbal exercises in active listening and following the flow of a conversation. We’ll assign job leads for preparation and follow it up with a rehearsal and then mock interview. These mock interviews can be videotaped for later review and analysis, and we’ll repeat them as many times as needed until you both feel and appear ready to go.
It can be stressful to face an intense life change and be asked to market yourself in a way you haven’t before, but with a clear plan of action, it is possible to achieve new levels of self-confidence and increase your potential for hire!
